Sometimes a photo comes along that looks impossible to restore, these are the challenges I love to tackle. It goes far beyond the realm of retouching and becomes a complete restoration. The images are often the only photo that the client has of their loved one which makes restoration a little more difficult….but not impossible..
For this K53 Chevy Spark retouch, the setting for this photo was amazing but it was in the middle of Summer so the grass was brown and also was shot midday so the shadows were very prominent. The brief was to remove any distracting background objects so that the cars stand out and replace the grass.
Jagermeister Retouch
The original Jagermeister photo was very dark lacking any clear detail so the brief was to bring out the detail in the shadows and then create an environment of broken ice, freezing cold temperatures and snow flurry’s.
Beauty Retouch
In the original photo, the models skin was looking a little patchy and slightly out of focus. I used a technique called Frequency Separation to add more detail and contrast to certain areas but leaving other untouched. The whole image was then graded, colour corrected and a new background added.
The Chevy Sparks were being used in the shoot for the new K53 Learner Drivers Manual. This one main photo needed to show a beach bar but the restaurant was on a main road so we had to add a sand area in the foreground and a Blue sky for the headline to stand out against.
For this Two Oceans bottle retouch, the brief from Sandilands Design Cape Town was to clean up the bottle and label making sure that the type is more readable and cooler in colour. Also to replace the old cork top with a new screw cap and match the colour. The new cap wasn’t ready for photography yet so it had to be illustrated to match the lighting and style of the photo.
The brief from Singh & Sons for their client, Entiro, was to replace peoples hands with various items such as a balloon, a cactus and a magnet. All the items had to be illustrated to match the photograph and lighting conditions of the original photos.
